WHEN MOVING, KEEP THESE 7 THINGS IN MIND

Moving may be a difficult experience. In the haste to have the professional Interatate Removalists scheduled, the boxes packed, and figure out what you want to keep and what you want to get rid of, it's easy to overlook certain important items. Here is a checklist of things to remember to help make your move as smooth and uneventful as possible.

Make a new address

Change your address by filing a change of address form with the post office. Your mail will be forwarded by the US Postal Service for up to a year after you relocate. You can notify the post office up to 30 days in advance of your move. This ensures that all of your final bills, financial statements, and other critical mail is forwarded to your new home at the same time as your possessions are delivered. If you have school-aged children, inform them of your new address in case you need their transcripts delivered to you. As soon as you get at your destination, begin notifying each institution separately. Also, don't forget to inform your friends and family that you've relocated.

Utilities and home services should be cancelled

Make a call ahead of time to your utilities and inform them of your final billing/service date. This covers your phone, cable, energy, water, lawn care, cleaning services, pest control, home security firm, and other ad hoc services such as a dog walker or Sunday newspaper delivery. Make sure you and your moving company agree on a date. You don't want your electricity, gas, or water to be turned off before your move. If you live in a HOA, notify them of your departure date to avoid any additional fees.

Update Your Insurance and Registration Information.

If you have an insurance representative, phone them to inform them of your relocation. This includes coverage for your automobile, home, life, and health. A move to a different city or state may have an influence on your rates, so make that decision as soon as feasible. Also, while you're upgrading your auto insurance, make sure your vehicle's registration is up to date.

Notify Your Employer.

Notify your employer if you are moving locally and not changing jobs. They'll have to amend their corporate records and, in some situations, alter wages if you're moving across state borders.

Organize Your Old House.

Make sure to clean or plan a cleaning of your former home after the professional interstate movers have left and before you hand over the keys. If you're renting, this will ensure that you get your security deposit returned. If you're selling your house and it's still on the market, this is a must-do to help potential buyers find it.

Passwords for Home Environment Systems can be changed or deleted.

Smart technology is now implemented in many homes, including front door locks, heating and air conditioning, lighting, and security. You may have password-protected apps that you use to control and monitor these systems in some circumstances. If that's the case, make sure you give the future homeowner all of the relevant information, but then log out or erase any information related to these systems.

Make changes to your online accounts.

Remember to update your delivery address if you order products online frequently. This is also a good time to update your profile with your bank, doctors, and any other suppliers with whom you have regular online interactions.
